The legendary hip hop group De La Soul released their ninth studio album and the Anonymous Nobody on August 26th. The phenomenal MC trio without the politics of releasing an album through a record label. The album features Jill Scott, Snoop Dogg, David Byrne, Estelle, Pete Rock, and 2 Chainz. The poetry from the great Jilly from Philly on “Genesis” starts this album off just right. “Royalty Capes” has incredible instrumentation. With stand-out lyrics like, “The sky takes notes when we speak”. You can’t go wrong with this joint. That drum accent, and kick drum on “Property of Spitkicker.com” takes the song to another level. “Memory of… (US)” is produced by the legendary Pete Rock, and featuring singer Estelle. Just straight R&B vibes. They’re giving rock vibes as well—with songs like “Cbgbs” and “Lord Intended”. Some more great lines dropped on this album. One from 2 Chainz, “I might call your girl to see if my phone work”. Also, on the song “Nosed Up” there’s a great part said “Too square to stand for anything”. The album is filled with great sarcasm, especially with the interlude “You Go Dave”. The whole album is a great balance of different sounds created lovely with raw instrumentation, and great samples. That 12 year album wait was definitely worth it, this album is solid as a rock.
and the Anonymous Nobody… is in stores now; also available for (digital) purchase everywhere.
