Grammy award winning singer/songwriter/musician Lalah Hathaway released Lalah Hathaway Live! on October 30th. This is the singer’s first live album release, her sixth studio album Where It All Begins was released in 2011.
To the first song “Little Ghetto Boy” to the last song on the album, it’s giving you great live instrumentation throughout. Most of these songs are released from her albums, also crediting the songwriters involved in these songs like legendary Angela Winbush, Rahsaan Patterson, Keith Crouch, and many more from previous albums. Also, talented producer DJ Camper on new song “Whatever”. She recorded the live performances at West Hollywood’s Troubadour the same place her iconic father Donny Hathaway recorded his live album in 1972, and some songs recorded live in the studio.
This album sets a precedent for Lalah’s 25 year career in the music industry. Lalah Hathaway definitely is at home on stage, and this live album definitely enhances the complete richness in her vocals. This album just shows and proves why live instrumentation is the key to soul music. All respect to the background vocalists and musicians that were apart of this album.
Lalah Hathaway Live! is available for (digital) purchase via iTunes and Amazon Music.
