The legendary rapper/singer Queen Latifah released “U.N.I.T.Y” in 1993 off of her 3rd album Black Reign and won for Best Rap Solo Performance in 1995. Like the hip hop writer for Front-Free would say, this is a vintage good. That infectious saxophone in the chorus, giving the song a jazz vibe with a hip hop instrumentation makes this record even more better. This song spoke about a lot of things that’s still prevalent in today’s time. It was speaking on the issues women go through regarding street harassment, domestic abuse, and the derogatory slurs used against women. It’s just a timeless hip hop classic with a socially conscious message, that still leaves in impact to the culture.
