The talented soulful group Lake Street Dive (Rachael Price/lead singer, Mike Calabrese/drummer, Bridget Kearson/bassist, Mike “McDuck” Olson/guitarist) released their fifth studio album Side Pony on February 19th. The album references an adventurous horse, which is parallel to the group’s chemistry and style. Fun filled energy, loose, and playful. They are giving rock/rhythm and blues arrangements with gospel styled harmonies like “Close To Me”. This is a band that you just cannot group into a one specific genre. They venture from 1960’s and 1970’s vintage soul/rock by effortlessly putting their own vibe to it, and by giving change up rhythms with the instrumentation throughout each song. Rachael Price just effortlessly blows you away with her subtle, yet strong vocal ability. Mike Calabrese gives you incredible creative drum patterns, Bridgett Kearson with that mean and swift pocket, and also the wonderful riffs from Olson. You can’t lose with this type of musical chemistry. They are also giving you versatility with pop hit songs like “Call Off Your Dogs”, with an infectious hook to blow your mind. They show their range with ballads like “So Long”, which shows their ability as songwriters to structure well written songs. Their musicality together on this album is refreshing, and should be considered a genuine, rightful approach to soul music.

Side Pony is available now for purchase via digital outlets like Prime Music and iTunes/Apple Music.
